OPPOSITION EMERGES
FBH
was given a copy of this letter at a meeting of the Randolph Planning
Board on March 25th, 2002. (text version)
In it the Conservation Commission addresses
the four legislators who received a letter
from the selectmen a month earlier asking that a bill be filed conveying
3.2 acres of Blue Hills Reservation parkland to Lantana.
The first public notice of the proposal had
appeared in the Patriot-Ledger on Feb.
16th. At that time nobody knew much about the land Lantana owner Hart
was offering in return, but all were familiar with the land he wanted,
which has nearly 400 feet of frontage on a major town road.
In their letter the Randolph Conservation Commission
comes down squarely against selling the undisturbed parkland on High
St. to Lantana. But legislation authorizing the sale had been filed
by Sen. Joyce twelve days earlier, and the Commission's protest had
no impact on its fate.
